Yancey County Schools Foundation

Important Announcement

Since its beginning in 1996, the Yancey County Schools Foundation has awarded hundreds of mini-grants to teachers in Yancey County Schools. The value of these grants totals well over $300,000 – funds raised through several years including:

  • the first golf tournaments in our county
  • ten years of the Town Scamper 5K runs
  • numerous direct sales events
  • one specific Federal Programs grant dedicated to the Foundation
  • many business and personal sponsorships

These funds have provided wonderful, innovative projects in every school in our county, and dozens of volunteers have made it possible.

However, because it has become increasingly difficult to get participation and support from the community and schools, the current officers and board members of the YCS Foundation have determined that the 2017-2018 school year will be its final year of operation.

It will, however, be an exciting year in which there will be fewer grants awarded, but for substantially larger amounts. As always, the Board will be seeking applications for innovative grants, but will place particular emphasis on the number of students impacted and the long-lasting value of the project. Collaborative projects are encouraged.

Due date has not been determined, but the Board plans to release information prior the the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
